Services & Availability

I am an independent contractor for hire to other lawyers or law firms with overflowing case loads. I’m available immediately for remote work or offices in Solano County. I have my own office space, and I am comfortable and experienced using technology such as Google Drive, Zoom, and QuickBooks Online for remote work.

The core of my experience is patents, trademarks, and business entity setup / dissolution. I can assist in these tasks with little to no training. I also have prior experience with immigration law (visa applications) and contracts. I’m most interested in expanding into related fields such as probate law, real estate, tax, bankruptcy, business litigation, securities, and large corporate transactions. I am also open to high-demand work such as civil litigation, workers’ comp, insurance defense, and personal injury. These fields would require more training in the beginning. However, see “I pay for training” below!

Rates

I present three reasonable options for payment arrangements.

  • Fraction of billable hours. Pay me only when I earn you income! This might be ideal if you bill your clients hourly. The traditional “rule of thirds” is that 1/3 goes to the associate, 1/3 to the partner, and 1/3 to overhead, primarily rent. Since I’m paying rent, I believe that a 1/2 share is fair and reasonable. 50% overtime surcharge beyond 8 hours / day or 40 hours / week.
  • Flat hourly: $30 / hr for all of my non-training time, whether billable or non-billable (administration, client intake, research, travel, case notes, communication, on call, etc.). Part-time or full-time. This might suit you best if you bill your clients on a flat fee or contingency basis. 50% overtime surcharge beyond 8 hours / day or 40 hours / week.
  • Full-time salary: $6,000 / month or $70,000 / year for full-time work, temporary or long-term.

I pay for training!

Training is just as valuable to me as income. I want to encourage you to train me properly and thoroughly. Whichever hourly rate we choose, I will pay you that rate for your time involved in training or supervision. This offer is valid up to 50% of each workday. For example, if you spend two hours training me on a Monday morning and then I bill three hours that Monday afternoon, you’ll only owe me the net difference of one hour. Training beyond the halfway point will be a $0 exchange; I will never bill you for training.

Relocation

If it becomes important to you to relocate me outside of Solano County, I will consider any location for a minimum salary of $95,000 / year. Please allow a few months for me to make the transition. If you need me to move before the paid position begins, I would require a loan for moving expenses: Please provide $5,000 – 10,000 up front, and then deduct it from my paychecks with reasonable interest over the first year.
